From Philadelphia International Airport
There are three ways to go:
- The first is by taxicab, which will cost at least $30.00. Before you get into ANY taxicab at the airport, make it clear where you are going and ask how much it will cost. If the taxi driver has no idea where Chamounix Mansion is, which is not unusual, it would be best to print out the following taxi driver directions and have them at hand to give to him. If that is not possible, simply copy the DRIVING DIRECTIONS From Philadelphia Area listed above. Have the driver acknowledge that he understands where the destination is, clearly, before climbing in.
- The second is to go to the Ground Transportation Desk (near the luggage claim area) and take the Lady Liberty van for $18.00 per person, note a small gratuity (tip) is commonly proferred - it will take you straight to our door.
- The third way is by public transportation. Take the SEPTA R1 train to Suburban Station. Take SEPTA bus #38 from JFK Boulevard between 15th and 17th Streets. Tell the bus driver you’d like to get off at Ford and Cranston Roads, to go to Chamounix Mansion. The Ford and Cranston stop is some ways from Center City, so relax but pay attention. At Ford and Cranston, exit the bus and walk down Ford Road towards and through a stone tunnel. At the end of the tunnel is a stop sign. That is Chamounix Drive. Turn left and continue straight on until you reach the circle at the end. Expect a 20 minute walk.

A Note About Taxi Fares
Please be aware that taxis in Philadelphia are among the most expensive in the US. From the airport, the fare will be at least $35.00 and maybe more. From the Amtrak 30th Street train station the fare should be around $15.00. From the bus station and most of Center City, the fare should be about $18.00. A modest gratuity (tip) is commonly proffered in addition to the fare. If the service has been good and fair, not offering a tip would be considered bad form.
If the driver says he is lost, tell him to turn off the meter - you DO NOT have to pay him to be lost. If your driver attempts to charge a significantly larger amount than the amounts quoted above, come into the Mansion and have the Manager on duty go out to talk to the driver.
The vast majority of Philadelphia taxi drivers are good, honest, hard working fellows, and we approach the VERY rare dispute in that spirit.
